So lets start with the pregnancy math. Now that don’t  you   go back  and search your high school math book!

It’s easy.

How do you count 9 months? From where to start counting? You have been pregnant just 5 minutes back!

We shall have answers for all these queries occupying your mind.

For convenience and   convention total duration of pregnancy is 280 days or 40 weeks as calculated from first day of your last menstrual period (LMP)

So best way to start counting 280 days/40 weeks from LMP

This is done by adding   9 months and 7 days to your LMP.

OR

Subtract 3 months and add7 days to your LMP

e.g.If your LMP is 1st January

Then your EDD is 8th October

This is how your doctor will calculate your – EDD (expecteddate of delivery- medical word)

Even though only 5 % of women deliver exactly on due date. In fact  full term pregnancy is

anywhere between 38 and 42 weeks. Though carrying beyond 41 weeks is not without risks.

Remember that women with irregular cycles may have difficulty in calculating their due

Date. So if you fall in that group please talk to your doctor

And now if you still want to dive deeper and want to understand why to calculate  the EDD from LMP  and not from that passionate night please visit our website www.geetainursinghome.com. We will answer the queries of ovulation and fertilisation and what are the other methods of calculating EDD.
